How to identify a good breeder?
A good breeder is the one who:
- Will not sell puppies to first person who shows money,
- Will not use social networks for selling puppies,
- Will not sell puppies before he ensures himself that future owner is trustworthy and will provide the best possible conditions for them,
- Will not breed their female dogs too often and in case of c- section not more than twice in dog’s life time,
- Aims to provide an excellent future for puppies, that is why good breeder will take puppies back at any time of their lives, or find them a right new house. It is well known that in life there are different random situations…
- Will not keep his dogs away from people- in kennels, for instance. The greatest misfortune for the dog is lack of constant emotional bond with people.
- Will share all information about his dogs. In case of breeding his female dog he will also share information about future father of puppies. On his website he will show dog’s pedigree,
- On his website in addition to the achievements and photos of his dogs’ exhibitions a good breeder will also includesome pictures of everyday life, so you can see in what conditions and surroundings his dogs live,
- He will present his family and himself, his breeding aims and plans as well as short information about each of his dogs
A good breeder allows you to see the mother with the puppies on his website, so you can be certain about their life conditions.
Look for a breeder who:
- Does not mate female dogs under 18 months old due to maturity,
- Takes only 2 c-sections per female dog in her life time,
- Will keep at least 18 months’ gap between c-sections,
- Allows to see a whole litter of the puppies, and also the place of their rearing,
- Is interested in future owner and conditions that he wants to create for a puppy,
- Breeds not more than three types of dogs, and is knowledgeable about the breed standards (the desired characteristics of the breed in areas such as size, proportion, coat, colour and temperament).
- Has a good and strong relationship with all his dogs,
- Has a good opinion and recommendation from a veterinarian who is caring about breeder ‘s dogs health,
- Feeds high quality "premium" brand food,
- Will show you complete set of vaccinations as well as he will inform you about medical history of puppies,
Good breeder will patiently and exhaustively answer all questions that consider you.
Unfortunately there is a lot of breeders who are not fulfilling conditions above, breeding dogs "in type of" (without pedigree). Note that, only purebred dog comes with pedigree.
Never buy a puppy in the act of mercy, just because they live in bad conditions and we are sorry for them.
By doing so you drive the trade of poverty and diseases, reassuring dishonest "breeders" and "puppy producers" that their behavior is right and acceptable!
